Head transplants were thought to be impossible. If you snap the chord that allows our body to function we shouldn't be able to function right? Maybe not. In 2017, a head transplant procedure will happen in Italy led by Dr. Sergio Canavero, a revered biological neuroscientist. According to Canavero, all the science is right. He claims they know everything the need to to successfully carry out this operation, but there's something fishy about it. First of all, this procedure is weird in the first place. Secondly, the timing of this surgery corresponded similarly with a new video game coming out called Metal Gear Solid. The game allegedly has a scene in it with a head transplant and critics are now deeming the surgery to be a PR stunt. Governments are now looking into the motives behind the surgery to make sure it is truly for science and not the benefit of a video game. Dr. Canavero adamantly speaks against these claims, instead saying he has never even heard of the game or its company.
Besides all the other weird publicity, this procedure is actually pretty cool. If you go the link you will see a video by the leading surgeon showing what they are planning to do during the operation. The science seems sound and it will be interesting to see what the results are. What are your opinions? Do you think it is a good idea to do this in the first place? Let me know what you think.

Hernandez's Fame Amounts to Nothing
The murder of Odin Lloyd by Aaron Hernandez began trial last January. Only now are the final verdicts emerging. Hernandez, a former tight end for the New England Patriots, was accused with murder, carrying an unlawful firearm, and carrying unlawful ammunition (a sentence that he has already served). Yesterday, for the charge of murder, he was given the sentence of life without parole. Throughout the trial, Hernandez was relatively calm while the mother of Odin Lloyd, Ursula, had no control over her emotions. It was quite angering to hear that when the final verdict was released, Ursula got up, pumped her fist, then proceeded to hug and congratulate the jury members. This rash, inconsiderate reaction is extremely inconsiderate. No matter what, a person being sent to prison for life is not a happy occasion. On the contrary, not a single jury member would look at Hernandez and then after acted solemn and melancholy due to the seriousness of what happened. Do you think the mother's actions were justified? Or are the reactions of the jury more considerate?
You can read more into how the trial unfolded here:

All this eventually amounts to nothing more than a person going to person for murder. No matter who it could have been, whatever fame or recognition they previously had would be washed away. Football player, actor, musician, or even the president. None of it would make a difference. This only goes to show that no one is above the law. Anyone can be convicted regardless of your stature.
It's a good lesson for us to realize that we aren't above anybody else. In the end, we are all treated the same.

Nukes.... Again
Once again we're back to nuclear talks with Middle Eastern countries. This time, six big western powers are getting together to stop Iran's missile production. U.S., Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany all met with Iranian government asking them to cease their warhead production in exchange for a lessening on economic sanctions. These discussions haven't been going on long but little progress has been made. According to Iranian Prime Minister Netanyahu, they are looking for a "better deal."
No matter what happens, this doesn't look like it's going to turn out well. Iran may claim that they are stopping producing nukes but we wouldn't have a sure way of making that stand true. If this happens, we are basically loosening restrictions we have put down in order to maintain peace for no reason. By getting away unscathed they could potentially seize an opportunity to strike out with their possible warheads and we would look like fools for not stopping them. No matter how this ends, it seems Iran will get away too easily and that could lead to problems. What are your ideas? Is there a solution that brings about complete peace with no one getting the upper hand that I missed? Comment your ideas and opinions below.

Where'd Ebola Go?
As I was thinking of an idea to write about I thought back to last year's
Ebola scare. As I thought about it I realized, no one talks about it anymore.
Omaha has had a few patients here for treatment and this activity reoccurs in
the news, but the main issues in Africa don't seem to be addressed
anymore.
As I was mulling over this I decided to find an article that has to do with the modern Ebola situation. I came across this:
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/guinea-shuts-border-sierra-leone-effort-end-ebola-30010952
Apparently Ebola hasn't quite cleared up. In Guinea, the virus is still very virulent and widespread. The country has decided to close its borders to all people for a 45 day period in some districts. They want to contain the virus as much as possible and keep it from spreading. This is a very good idea if the aim is trying to eliminate the virus, but it is having some negative side effects. There are some people and families that have traveled outside of Guinea to the surrounding countries and now find themselves locked out of their home. This can cause serious problems for instance if there is a sick family member stuck inside the country without anyone to care for them.
I think the idea was good intentioned, but will cause too many problems. There will be too many people stuck outside of their home with no way to get to their job or family. I think what they should have done is instead of blocking off whole portions of the country, just block off small sections of the country where they can contain and treat Ebola in a small, safe, environment that doesn't affect any other healthy civilians. What do you think? Was it a good idea to quarantine a country?
